Legal Considerations for Church Safety Teams
Legal Considerations for Church Safety Teams
Church safety is more than awareness and response—it is responsibility. In today’s environment, churches must be spiritually grounded, tactically prepared, and legally informed. This course provides a foundational understanding of how Oklahoma law applies to volunteer church safety teams, ensuring that protection efforts are both effective and lawful.
Drawing from statutes including the Oklahoma Volunteer Protection Act, the Oklahoma Good Samaritan Act, and 21 OK Stat § 1289.25, this lesson equips you to operate confidently within the boundaries of the law. We will also examine updates such as Senate Bill 743 and relevant provisions of 22 OK Stat § 202.

The goal of this training is simple: to protect people while protecting the church. Legal protection follows reasonable behavior. When volunteers act in good faith, within their scope of duty, and according to established policy, the law often provides significant safeguards. When actions fall outside those boundaries, liability risk increases dramatically.
This course will help you:
Understand Oklahoma’s legal protections for volunteers
Define lawful use of force and Stand Your Ground standards
Clarify the limits of citizen authority
Recognize licensing and insurance considerations
Analyze real-world church scenarios through a legal lens
