Situational Awareness & Behavioral Threat Detection
Situational Awareness & Behavioral Threat Detection
This course equips church safety team members, ushers, and ministry volunteers with the skills needed to recognize potential threats before they escalate. Participants learn how to maintain effective situational awareness within a ministry environment while preserving the welcoming and open atmosphere that churches strive to provide. The training focuses on identifying behavioral cues and pre-incident indicators that may signal developing threats. Students will learn how to read body language, recognize stress and aggression signals, and detect suspicious or unusual behavior in common church settings such as entrances, children’s areas, parking lots, and worship spaces.

The course also explains how attackers often conduct surveillance, test security measures, and display observable behaviors prior to an incident.
Through practical observation exercises, real-world case studies, and guided scenario discussions, participants practice identifying subtle warning signs and making informed decisions about when and how to respond. The course emphasizes communication, documentation, and proper escalation procedures so safety teams can intervene early and prevent situations from developing into crises.
By the end of the training, participants will be better prepared to observe their environment, interpret human behavior, and respond appropriately to potential threats—helping create a safer church while maintaining a welcoming environment for congregants and guests.
